Regional Staff Changes

Dear Friends

As you have seen through our most recent letters regarding last year’s financial report, we have been running a deficit budget for a while now. In order to relieve the tension we either increase the income (donations to the parish) or decrease expenses. In order to help reduce the expenses this year we have made some reductions to our regional expenses which will help all of the parishes’ bottom lines. In addition to being down one less priest (Fr. Simham was transferred to Grays Harbor and Fr. Negusse is serving in a “fill in” role rather than every weekend), we also moved Nancy Malla from her position as housekeeper and cook at the rectory to her new position as custodian at St. Edward School. This worked out perfectly for everyone, and “Miss Nancy” is a hit over at the school. This frees up her salary from the regional budget and the school can cover her salary and benefits. We (the three priests) have been shopping, cooking and cleaning on our own, and so far it’s working out well. In addition, I made the difficult choice to eliminate Kevin Murphy’s position as Pastoral Assistant for Administration. As you know, I am unable to share any further details because this is a personnel matter, but I wanted to let you know of this change as soon as possible. Kevin was most gracious in his response to this news, and I will be in touch with him about the possibilities of having some sort of “going away” event with the parishes if he wishes. You are most welcome to contact Kevin directly. I am grateful to all of you for your on-going support of our parishes. My hope is that by cutting back some; it might put us on a better footing financially for the future.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Scott Connolly
