St. Vincent de Paul

St. Paul Parish Conference

The St. Paul conference at St. Vincent De Paul (S. V. D. P.) provides assistance with food, clothing, household items, partial utilities and other needs of the poor within our parish boundaries. This year, over 1500 home visits to 481 families were performed. There is an urgent need for new volunteers, both men and women, regular on-call, to join the present nine-member team. All necessary training will be provided. New members will accompany experienced members on home visits until they are comfortable doing so in two member teams. For more information, call Howard Swenson at 206-722-3694 or Joe Marley at 723-6766. You are welcome to stop in at one or more meetings which are held in the Colossians Room, adjacent to the parish garage, every Tuesday at 4:00 PM.

Meetings last approximately one hour in consist of the following;

  • Opening prayer
  • Short spiritual reading
  • Treasures report
  • Report on previous week's client to visit
  • (All requests for aid are received by the central SVDP Council and faxed to our conference office.)
  • Prepare vouchers which are exchangeable for goods at Saar's grocery store or SVDP thrift stores
  • Assigning of two member teams to deliver vouchers, typically 25 to 35 per week
  • Any new business
  • Closing prayer

Presently, teams deliver vouchers on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. These times are flexible and can be changed based on the schedule of new members.

Please consider assisting in this great need!
